aside from NIL, I agree with the idea of contracts. I'm comfortable with different contract lengths though...just like coaches. Maybe the Arch Mannings of the world negotiate 2 year deals. Most 3/4 stars have 3 year deals. But if some coaches have "outs" for their alma mater etc, maybe the players get those too.

imo we want the teams more stable, but we want these guys to get fair treatment. it never set right for me that coaches get outs in their contracts but the players were stuck where they were.

I suppose the "outs" will become part of the contracts. Dak has a no trade/no franchise tag contract. His agent got that for him. If a player is good enough, he can negotiate the contract and retain portal rights. I'm not sure anyone would legislate the transfer rules. Congress has other problems.

But if NIL is not a University "deal" then there are no Title IX problems. A contract with the university would probably run afoul of that law.

NR we are talking of different issues. You are absolutely correct about our fickle fan base but I’m talking about the haters saying things like we said about collie station the year they bought their players. I only hope our outlay has a higher than the average percent payout for the ‘other’ sports. I do not cherish being in the position of paying the highest for the players we field as Longhorns. Sets up all kinds of condemnations, win or lose.

It was legit to question cheaters, but not NIL. The Yankees and the Dodgers don't seem to care about what anyone thinks about their built-in advantages (major population centers) or how much they spend. If it's within the rules, then all's fair...

Nice point and is certainly true that haters gonna hate regardless.

That's right, and of course, UT has tremendous resources. It's not fair!!!!! Yep.

But we still have to recruit and pay the right players. We have to have the right coaching staff. We have to create the family atmosphere needed to please mom and dad. We have to have the fan base. All these things involve money to a certain extent, but it all involves thought and coordination. Money is no guarantee of success.

Look at Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

Nash-Just as free agency changed the pros,NIL has changed the college game. It will also change the fan base as they will be expecting more. The pros used to play for a team and be loyal to a team. The same has happened to college players,it is all about the money. They are no longer student athletics just pros. The fans should be expected to voice their unhappiness with a player or team.If the players cant except that, they shouldnt accept the money. Most fans will still support their team but it sure isnt as much enjoyment anymore. That is what always made the high school and college sports so special. Now we are watching the best players money can buy.

Yeah, I know I was just joking and used this as an opportunity to get ready for our fans to flip out.

This is the kid that decommitted from UT two years ago during a losing effort at half time?
    Now to CSU????
Okay. See you in August for your 2nd L against the Horns.

I understand and wish anyone well that de commits from the Longhorns well. It’s the way this young man did it that I thought was completely childish.
But- saved us a scholly because if he left BU for playing time he would definitely have left UT.

I never thought a QB transfer from Northwestern would be "massive" news.

    Vol,

Does it really matter? It's Iowa and Ferentz' offense. Might as well get a kid out of the SBMSA 10 year old league.

It doesn't matter, that was my point with the "massive" in quotations. Maybe for Iowa it is massive because I'm not sure they've had an actual QB on their roster for the last five or so years.
